The home of Café #999 at Fire Station is an artists’ hub supporting local art community in Qatar through various programs and exchanges organised by Qatar Museums (QM). The property was built for Civil Defense in 1982, and when the Civil Defense relocated in December 2012 to its current state-of-the-art headquarters, the building was renovated under the guidance of Qatari architect, Ibrahim Al Jaidah, and reopened in March 2015. The Fire Station offers a nine-month resident program for artists in Qatar. During this time, they move into the studios on-site, collaborate with fellow artists and develop their own unique style and technique. They have the opportunity to meet curators and attend lectures, and can access all exhibitions throughout their art residency. The Fire Station facilities include Garage Gallery, multiple studios, space for workshops in the annex building, store for art supplies and Café #999.
